Let's Learn and Grow Together!

Adaptive skills, such as communication, self-care, and problem-solving, are important for social and emotional learning (SEL):

  • Adaptive skills

Practical, everyday skills that help people function and interact with others. They include self-care, communication, self-direction, social skills, and leisure skills. People usually acquire these skills as they mature.

  • Social and emotional learning

Skills that children can learn and practice, such as friendship skills, emotional literacy, self-regulation, anger management, and problem-solving. SEL also includes relationship skills, such as communicating clearly, listening, cooperating, resisting negative pressure, resolving conflicts, and supporting one another. Social awareness is another important SEL skill, which is the ability to understand the perspectives of others, including those from diverse backgrounds.
