Who am I?

I am a SEL Specialist that uses my published curriculum to teach Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to kids, parents, teachers, and therapists! I organize workshops and have trained teachers in my approach, keeping a strong line of communication with all involved. My background is in special education and implementing social emotional learning programming in schools across Southern and Northern California by incorporating my curriculum. The goal of what I do is to enhance social skills, acceptance, and communication so friendships can thrive. I am the author of “The Brain’s Playground: Using Improv Games To Teach Social and Emotional Learning”. I work with Saxy Turtle Productions to create content with children of all abilities while going into schools, homes, and therapy-offices implementing my approach.

Adaptive skills, such as communication, self-care, and problem-solving, are important for social and emotional learning (SEL):

  • Adaptive skills

Practical, everyday skills that help people function and interact with others. They include self-care, communication, self-direction, social skills, and leisure skills. People usually acquire these skills as they mature.

  • Social and emotional learning

Skills that children can learn and practice, such as friendship skills, emotional literacy, self-regulation, anger management, and problem-solving. SEL also includes relationship skills, such as communicating clearly, listening, cooperating, resisting negative pressure, resolving conflicts, and supporting one another. Social awareness is another important SEL skill, which is the ability to understand the perspectives of others, including those from diverse backgrounds.
